The late Professor Hans Erlenmeyer and his wife shared a mutual interest in the cultural history and religions of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. This led to the forming of their collection of Ancient Art which they made together between 1943 and the early 1960s. The collection was sold by the Erlenmeyer Stiftung, a foundation generously formed by Mrs Erlenmeyer in aid of animal welfare and other good causes related to the preservation of the natural environment, about which she and her late husband were particularly concerned.
